Remembering 9/11- 20 Years Later

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the day that changed our lives forever. The minutes, hours, days, and months that followed the attacks on the World Trade Center were full of shock, confusion, anger, grief, fear, and sadness. It is a dark time in our country’s history that reminds us how life can change in the blink of an eye. September 11th brought out the best in people and taught us bravery, strength, and resilience. While 9/11 affected some of us directly and others indirectly, we all came together as one and mourned as a nation.

As we approach the 20th anniversary of September 11th, we asked our team to share memories that come to mind when they think of 9/11. Here are a few responses from the team:

“I lived right outside the city in CT and grew up with multiple kids with a parent who was either on one of the planes or in the WTC. My dad was supposed to be at a conference a block away from Ground Zero, but ended up staying home that day. You could see the smoke from the beach near our house for weeks.”

Chris

“One of the most memorable experiences of my life was the Tunnel to Towers 5K I participated in 4 years ago here in NYC. It is a foundation for Stephen Siller, incredible story.”

Austin

“Every time I walk by the fountains where the towers used to stand it would make me remember watching tv all day while the towers burned, people running/crying, and eventually the towers collapsing. It’s so sad.”

Sid

“I remember lying in bed for 10 hours straight all day with my jaw on the floor.”

Joshua

“I was a freshman in high school. Our history teacher turned on the news in the classroom and we all watched. Everyone’s parents started pulling them out of school. My whole family met at my grandparents’ house where we just watched the news for hours. Still hurts my heart thinking about that time

Jeff

Tomorrow let’s pause to remember all of those who lost their lives on 9/11 and vow to never forget the sacrifice of our heroes and the bravery of strangers.
