SBG Newsletter – February 2020

Welcome to the SBG Newsletter – February 2020

A word from our CEO Jeff Sachs

“February may be one of the shortest months of the year, but for some businesses it seems to drag on and on. Although Valentine’s Day is a busy time for florists and retail shops, many small to medium sized businesses find that February is one of the slowest months of the year. So what can you do to help your business survive the slower months when there is a lull in sales? Here’s what I suggest:

Don’t Panic

Many industries experience seasonality such as real estate agencies, construction companies, landscaping companies, or even restaurants who rely heavily on tourism. Remember that seasonal slumps are to be expected, so don’t make any drastic changes or rash decisions that could potentially harm your businesses in the long run. With proper planning in place, you will be prepared for the slower times and can make the most of them.

Identify a Pattern and Anticipate Your Slow Season

It’s common for new business owners to be concerned the first time they experience a slow period. Figuring out what time of year is the slowest one for your business takes a bit of time, but once you do, you can both anticipate it and plan for it. When doing your yearly planning and setting your goals, consider putting money aside during your high season. Make sure to put aside enough cash to maintain operations during the slower months and to cover a potential emergency such as broken equipment.

Use the Down Time Wisely

You know all of those projects and items on your to-do list that you’ve been putting off? Now is the time to do them! Update your social media profiles and get some new marketing campaigns in the works. Need to do some cleaning and renovations? Take advantage of the down time and do it now. Before you know it, business will pick up again, so use your time wisely to improve your business now while you have the time.”

Best Regards,
Jeff Sachs
